Exits, as they are called by those who know of
the Wash, are the only way to cross through the barrier that separates
the Wash from
Earth Air. They are called exits no matter which way a person is going, in or out, rather than using the more common exit for one way and entrance for the other, because no one could settle on which way a person was exiting. To enter
Earth Air, one must exit
the Wash. To enter
the Wash, one must exit
Earth Air. Therefore, they are called exits from both inside and outside of
the Wash.
Exits are very difficult to detect. They appear as a heat shimmer might, but are usually tall and very narrow. They are very constant, rarely ever changing place, and they exist anywhere that
the Wash transits--in deep woods, in alleyways, in the sides of mountains, etc. In order to transit an exit, one must enter at the proper angle, usually sideways, otherwise they will pass right through the exit with no indication or sensation to tell them it was there. Thus, it is very difficult to discover
the Wash by chance. It is very possible, but difficult.
